Foster’s ads hit gold
Foster’s has gone all out with the comedy approach. Not only does the company sponsor exclusive online comedy shows The Fast Show, Vic & Bob and Alan Partridge on its website fosters.co.uk, but it also provides the British population with entertainment through its series of ads featuring Brad and Dan.
The boys first hit British screens about a year ago, with the two of them sitting in their beach hut that is painted a golden Foster’s yellow on a beach in Oz. While they like nothing better than drinking a cold can of their favourite beer, the Aussie pair is more than happy to answer questions posed by British men who have got tricky dilemmas to deal with.
So far, we’ve seen Brad and Dan advising these men on how to compliment your girlfriend’s terrible haircut, whether to get tattoos of their girlfriend’s name done, and other social conundrums like if it’s ok to put sun cream on another man’s back.
Whatever they’re asked their opinions about, Brad and Dan have a bright and breezy response. For Ben from Southend who’s concerned his girlfriend might end up looking like her mother, they tell him that some things in life just aren’t worth angsting about. And anyway by the time she has started to look like her mother, they think he’ll have other things to worry about like: “why do I have hair growing out of my ears – and how do they make scotch eggs?”
The latest Fosters ad sees Brad out of his normal environment and at an English garden party. He calls Dan with some worrying news – there’s plenty of Foster’s Gold on offer but the sandwiches only have no meat in them! Dan is shocked: “No sausage? That is a crime against sliced bread!” But – as he turns his sausages on the bbq in Oz – he advises Brad to go along with it, and just feel sympathy that his host can’t afford meat.
We then see Brad conspiratorially chatting with the party host: “Spent all thesandwich money on Gold eh?” You little ripper!”
Foster’s has definitely hit the mark with this series of ads – long may they continue!
